1960s Mixes

THE ESSENTIAL 1960s REGGAE MIX
This is the Reggae music I grew up with in the 1960s there are several young artists in this mix that went on to become the very biggest Reggae icons, one was a Bobby Martell, the other was Winston Sinclair, if ya know, ya know! The mix opens with “People Funny Boy,” the iconic veiled put down by the late Lee “Scratch,” Perry. Then comes Nora Dean, Derrick Morgan, The Untouchables, Max Romeo, Toots And The Maytals, Dandy Livingstone, Phyllis Dixon, Errol Dunkley, Derek Harriot, Don Drummond, The Heptones, Desmond Dekker,Bob Andy, Jimmy Cliff,Bob And Marcia, The Pioneers, Johnny Nash, Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, Keith And Tex, The Upsetters, The Techniques, Joy Landis, Tommy Cook, The Ethiopians, The Wailers, Prince Buster, The Paragons, The Melodians, Shawn Elliot, Dawn Penn, The Jamaicans, and Harry J And The Allstars. I hope you enjoy the way I have put this music together.

THE ESSENTIAL 1960s ROCK MIX
Once again the music I grew up with, and this time it is Rock music.
I decided to kick off this mix with Country Joe And The Fish and “The Vietnam Song,”
It is a song that means so much to so many Americans at the time of the Vietnam War.
In order to keep the mix to two hours, it was necessary to prune a huge list of tracks from that time.
I left out some great tracks, but I am happy with a list that is The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Love Sculpture, The Beatles, Mitch Ryder And The Detroit Wheels, Sir Douglas Quintet, Bobby Fuller Four, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Question Mark And The Mysterians, The Doors, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Them, Canned Heat, The Who, Bob Dylan, The Kinks, Steppenwolf, Pink Floyd, The Byrd’s, The Yardbirds, The Zombies, The Small Faces, The Lovin Spoonful, Julie Driscoll and Brian Augur, Status Quo, and David Bowie.

THE 1960s BRITISH BEAT GROUP BOOM MIX

The beginning of the Great British Beat Group Boom came around 1963 with the emergence of the Liverpool Beat Groups in the U.K. charts, and from other cities too, whilst not forgetting the emergence also of the Rolling Stones in London.
Pop music for British teenagers really took off after this time, and the T.V station I.T.V were quick to respond with the creation in August 1963, of an institution that all “with it,” teenagers at that time knew as “the weekend starts here,” namely the pop show Ready Steady Go.
The theme tune of the show was Manfred Mann’s 5-4-3-2-1 so it is fitting that I begin this mix with that track in a mix that captures everything about the “Swinging Sixties, through these tracks from The Dave Clark Five, The Moody Blues, The MerseyBeats, The Four Pennies, The Crying Shames, The Animals, The Beatles, The Who, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Gerry And The Pacemakers, The Applejacks, The Hollies, The Searchers, The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, The Spencer Davis Group, Dave, Dee, Dozy, Mick And Tich, Brian Poole And The Tremeloes, Billy J Kramer, The Mojos, Cliff Bennett And The Rebel Rousers, The Nashville Teens, The Migil 5, The Fourmost, The Troggs, The Shadows, The Big Three, The Rocking Berries, The Move, Amen Corner, Freddie And The Dreamers, Hermans Hermits, The Searchers, The Honeycombs, and Bern Elliot And The Fenmen.
